Fund and Implement a 24/7 National Mental Health Crisis Response Service
Fund and implement a 24/7 national mental health crisis response service, integrated into the 999 system, so that people experiencing mental health crises are attended by trained crisis professionals rather than police or ambulance services where there is no immediate physical danger.
Police and ambulance services are increasingly used for mental health crises, creating high costs and pressure on emergency services. A 24/7 national crisis response service, integrated into 999 and staffed by trained professionals, could significantly reduce avoidable A&E attendance, hospital admissions and Section 136 detentions, saving public money while providing more appropriate crisis care.
