Petition Action

Require able-to-work benefit claimants to participate in community work schemes

Petition Details

Require all benefit claimants who are able to work to participate in mandatory local community work schemes. We believe continued receipt of benefits should depend on regular participation in approved local tasks, with exemptions for disability, illness, caring responsibilities, or education.

Additional Information

We believe the welfare system should protect those who genuinely cannot work while expecting reasonable contribution from those who can. Community work schemes could improve local environments, reinforce fairness for taxpayers, help claimants maintain routine, confidence and basic skills, and reduce long-term dependency. Visible contribution in return for public support could increase trust, social cohesion, and public confidence in the benefits system.
