Petition Action

Require prisons to separate visiting children from all sex offenders

Petition Details

We want the Government to require prisons to run separate, safeguarded visiting sessions for prisoners convicted of sexual offences so that children visiting other prisoners are not exposed to them during visits.

Additional Information

Children visiting parents in prison should be protected from exposure to prisoners convicted of sexual offences. Visiting arrangements allow many offenders with sexual convictions to attend visits at the same time and same space as children, causing distress to families. We think this is a serious safeguarding concern. Prison visits should be safe, child-appropriate environments. We are calling for mandatory separation of child visits from prisoners convicted of sexual offences to protect children’s safety.
