Make melatonin easier to obtain and prescribe in the UK
Make melatonin easier to obtain and prescribe by reclassifying it or enabling pharmacist-led supply. Currently, prescribing is difficult, often requiring conditions like an ADHD diagnosis, limiting access for many who need it.
Melatonin helps regulate sleep and is used safely worldwide. In the UK, it’s hard to access and often requires a prescription, causing delays. Easier access could improve sleep health, reduce pressure on GPs, and provide a safer alternative to stronger sleep medications.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Decisions about the classification of medicines are a matter for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), not the UK Government or Parliament. The MHRA is operationally independent from the Government.
