Petition Action

Hold registered vehicle owners responsible for all collisions

Petition Details

Change the law so that registered vehicle owners are responsible for all collisions, i have had 2 drivers hit my vehicles and both denied despite being caught on cctv, this is because the registration number was not seen on the cctv footage. Recently another car has done the same and denying it.

Additional Information

I want the law changing so that all registered vehicle owners are held responsible for all collisions, this is to stop other drivers being given the chance to deny/not admit liability. Registered vehicle owners are held responsible for everything else in regards to driving, this should apply to collisions/hit and runs also. One vehicle wrote my vehicle off and denied it, recently another vehicle has hit my vehicle and also denied any involvement, despite being on cctv. This needs to change.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. For instance, we're not sure if you want driving offences to only be the responsibility of the registered owner of a vehicle involved in a collision, rather than the person driving the vehicle, or if you want another specific action to be taken regarding drivers who cause collisions.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
