Petition Action

Support self-determination in Greenland & Denmark against a takeover by the USA.

Petition Details

Stand up against threats by the USA to take control of Greenland. Advocate for democracy. Strengthen the UN Charter's aims of saving people from the scourge of war and establishing respect for obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law.

Additional Information

The rules-based international order does not work perfectly. But to ignore it in favour of imperialism and resource-hungry colonialism reduces constraints on other takeovers by authoritarian regimes worldwide.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Yvette Cooper MP, stated that:

"Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Its future is a matter for Greenlanders and the Danes, and them alone. This reflects the fundamental principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity to which the whole House is committed."

"I welcome the messages of cross-party unity and the shared conviction that the future of Greenland must be determined by the Greenlanders and the Danes."
