Petition Action

Don't lower the blood alcohol levels for driving in the New Road Safety Strategy

Petition Details

Keep the blood alcohol levels at 80mg in the New Road Safety Strategy rather than lowering them to 50mg. We believe putting more effort into enforcement of the current levels (and also of detecting drug drivers) would be far more effective at making the roads safe.

Additional Information

We do not think that drivers who drink one pint are high risk drivers or responsible for a high number of accidents (especially when compared with drug drivers). We are concerned that lowering the blood alcohol level to 50mg will kill off many social activities where people go for one drink after an event, and it will kill off Country pubs at a time the govt. is meant to be encouraging the hospitality industry. We believe that if we can't drive after having one pint people will not bother going and society, our social lives and pubs will suffer.
