Petition Action

Keep dogs on leads at all times to protect people, wildlife and other dogs

Petition Details

Requiring dogs to be kept on leads at all times would improve public safety, protect children, elderly and disabled people and reduce dog attacks. It would also safeguard livestock and wildlife, prevent road accidents, and give clarity to owners, councils and the public through one clear rule

Additional Information

Keeping dogs on leads at all times will significantly improve public safety & animal welfare. Uncontrolled dogs can cause serious injury, distress & pose risks to children, people undertaking sporting activities (runners), elderly people & those with disabilities. Leads also protect livestock and wildlife, reduce road traffic incidents, and prevent conflicts between dogs. A clear nationwide rule would remove confusion, support responsible ownership, and help councils enforce safety consistently
