Petition Action

Stop Violent Suppression of Peaceful Protesters and Internet Blackout in Iran

Petition Details

Condemn the violent suppression of peaceful protesters in Iran, impose targeted sanctions on individuals and entities responsible for human rights violations, and work with international partners to restore internet access and protect civilians.

Additional Information

Iranian security forces have reportedly used lethal force against unarmed civilians during nationwide protests. At the same time, authorities have imposed a full internet blackout, preventing families from contacting loved ones and blocking the documentation of human rights abuses. The UK must act to defend human rights and protect civilians.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government is already taking steps in this direction. See this recent Urgent Question:
hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2026-02-03/debates/9CF7A5A9-1F44-44AD-917F-15F55C597CE6/Iran

The UK Government has indeed condemned the violence and brought in sanctions against an increasing number of individuals and entities in Iran (some had been sanctioned before the current unrest began):
