Set a maximum 6‑month diagnosis target for endometriosis
With diagnosis of endometriosis taking on average 8-10 years, I am calling for a national 6‑month diagnosis target, supported by mandatory GP training, a clearer NHS process for assessment and referral, and increased investment in specialist services.
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, yet many wait years for a diagnosis. These long delays cause avoidable pain, disruption and distress, often affecting daily life and the ability to work. Earlier diagnosis would improve wellbeing, reduce long‑term harm and avoid the £12.5 billion annual cost to the NHS and wider economy. A 6‑month diagnosis target supported by better GP training and clearer assessment and referral, is essential to improving the welfare of those with symptoms of endometriosis.
