Align foreign & trade policy with EU and set steps towards closer integration

Petition Details

The Government should formally reassess the UK’s foreign and trade strategy and commit to a much deeper political, economic and regulatory alignment with the EU, going beyond, what we consider vague, “closer ties” and setting out clear, time-bound steps for stronger integration.

Additional Information

Such steps could include considering another referendum of whether to join the EU. We believe the global political landscape has changed fundamentally and that the US can no longer be relied upon as a stable or predictable partner, as shown by recent tariffs imposed on allies. We believe Labour’s current EU policy, based on a limited “reset”, is already extremely outdated and that the UK’s economic security, trade resilience and international credibility now depend on a decisive shift back towards Europe rather than continued drift. In our view, this is no longer just politics, our security and safety depends on action and now.
