Petition Action

Ringfence 75% of all VED revenue raised to be reinvested in road system

Petition Details

The Government must allocate a minimum of 75% of all monies raised through Vehicle Excise Duty to be reinvested in the building, maintenance and repair of the road system in the UK.

Additional Information

The revenue raised by the Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) in 2023/24 amounted to £7.8 billion, of which 25% (£1.95 billion) was reinvested back into the building, repair and maintenance of the road system of the UK. We believe the amount that is currently allocated to the roads is clearly inadequate, and as a result has rendered our roads 'dangerous': this manifests itself as a direct danger to pedestrians and all road users causing death, injury and damage.
