We the people and taxpayers demand that all local elections go ahead on May 07th
Require that all scheduled local government elections in England due on 7 May 2026 go ahead as planned, and remove/limit the Government’s ability to postpone those elections except in genuinely exceptional circumstances (for example, a national emergency), with full Parliamentary approval.
Delaying elections damages trust in local democracy and risks setting a precedent that election dates can be moved for political or administrative reasons. Even where reorganisation is planned, voters should still be able to choose who represents them and oversees services and budgets during any transition. Regular elections are a cornerstone of democratic legitimacy and should not be treated as optional.
