Petition Action

Provide Separate, Compassionate Spaces for NICU Mothers and Pregnancy Loss

Petition Details

Introduce national NHS guidance and funding to ensure hospitals can provide separate, private rooms for mothers whose babies are in NICU, and separate waiting and ward areas for women experiencing miscarriage, to ensure compassionate, trauma-informed care.

Additional Information

Mothers with babies in NICU are often placed on shared postnatal wards surrounded by newborns, causing severe emotional distress at an already traumatic time. Likewise, women experiencing miscarriage are frequently made to wait alongside pregnant women or families with babies, which can intensify grief and trauma. These practices can cause avoidable psychological harm and lack compassion and dignity.
