Change your definition of carers allowance to “carers supplement”.

Petition Details

I want carers allowance to be put in a different bracket from a “base benefit”.
I believe it keeps carers in poverty because currently you cannot get two base benefits at once. State pension & bereavement allowance are also base benefits.Right now, carers allowance is removed if you claim either.

Additional Information

I am coming up to pensionable age. I learnt, when I apply for my pension, my carers allowance will be removed! I will still be looking after my son for the 133 hrs I currently do, so why/how can it be right to remove this.
When my husband died, my carers allowance was removed because I claimed bereavement allowance for the following year even though I was still looking after my son. How is this fair/right?
Please recognise the work we carers do and the money we save the government. Value us!
