Use of lie detector tests in rape cases

Petition Details

In rape cases, it should be made a right for the accused to be offered a lie detector test. If the accused’s test comes back as truthful, the accuser should be asked to take a lie detector test; they can refuse.

Additional Information

If the case goes court, the facts of the truthful test and the accuser's refusal can be used in court.

We believe offering this legal right will help set the investigating officers on the right path to the truth, upholding the law to protect the innocent, by not needing the accuser to take the test. This will help protect the victim. A test early will decrease the length of time needed to investigate the truth, saving time, money and resources. Not blocking evidence in court will be fairer, and maintain our human rights to a fair investigation and trial.
