Mandatory caps on how long defaults can appear on a credit report

Petition Details

Introduce new caps on the length of time a default can stay on your credit score depending on reason. Some people end up with defaults on the score due to unforeseen illnesses and resulting in being out of work and then struggle to get back on the ladder

Additional Information

I think the people who are ill or need emergency care who have worked all there life to build a good credit score can have it ruined from one default that stays on your report for 6 years resulting in people finding it harder to get a mortgage, car and finance etc when it was no fault of their own.
