Offer routine PSA tests to men over 50 to detect prostate cancer early.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and often has no early symptoms. Routine PSA testing for men over 50 would enable earlier diagnosis and save lives.
Prostate cancer frequently develops without warning signs. Too many men are diagnosed only once the disease is advanced, not because treatment is unavailable, but because early testing is not routinely offered.
At present, men must actively request a PSA test or wait until symptoms appear.
Routine screening would:
Detect prostate cancer earlier
Improve survival rates
Reduce the need for intensive late-stage treatment
Early detection saves lives, and would save the NHS money.
