Petition Action

Governing parties must show real progress on their manifesto commitments

Petition Details

This petition calls for a simple, fair rule: governing parties must show real progress on their manifesto commitments within six months—or face consequences
If they fail without good reason, Parliament should be able to remove the Prime Minister and prevent them from holding any government position

Additional Information

This assessment should take into account economic conditions, national emergencies, legal constraints, and other exceptional circumstances, and should be supported by transparent reporting to Parliament
Politicians win elections on promises, but far too often, once in power, those promises are abandoned.
Election promises should mean something
It’s time to restore trust in our democracy.
Additionally, all politicians should undergo enhanced CRB checks to ensure those in power are properly vetted

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure how this is different from existing Parliamentary scrutiny of the Government and its manifesto, and Parliament's ability to hold votes of no confidence.
