Remove interest from all UK student loans to stop unfair graduate taxation
Remove interest from all student loans and freeze balances in real terms so repayments reduce debt instead of inflating it. Student loan repayments already function as a graduate tax and should not grow through interest.
Student loans now operate like a second tax on graduates, taken directly from pay. High interest means balances grow even while people repay, trapping them for decades. This reduces take-home pay and makes it harder to save, including paying into pensions, leaving graduates paying two forms of tax for education.
