Petition Action

Do not introduce a mandatory learning period for new UK drivers

Petition Details

The Government must withdraw its proposal to introduce a minimum learning time requirement for new drivers in the UK.

Additional Information

The suggestion that individuals applying for a driving licence in the UK must undertake a compulsory learning period of up to 6 months will, we believe, directly prevent certain groups (immigrants, elders who have to reapply, and those unable to afford private lessons) from getting onto the road and will lead to the already terrible learner driver environment to become even more unreasonable in terms of wait times for lessons/tests/etc, and will increase the number of drivers without a licence.
