Keep B1 English ILR requirement for those already in UK on family/spouse visa
Do not change to the B2 English requirement for ILR which has been proposed in the November 2025 immigration white paper. This change will not be possible to achieve for those planning to apply for ILR in 2026 as there is insufficient time to achieve B2 English level for some on the family route
This change needs a transition period until at least 2027 applications for ILR. Some of those applying for ILR in 2026 will not be able to meet the proposed new B2 standard level which means they will have to apply fir an additional FLR visa at an additional cost of circa £4500. This creates uncertainty for families and spouses of UK citizens unnecessarily.
