10 pence charge to plastic bottles to encourage recycling

Petition Details

I would like the government to implement a 10 pence charge to plastic beverage bottles which will be returned to the consumer when the bottle is recycled at an appropriate station; this is similar to programs in Australia

Additional Information

I want to implement a 10p deposit return scheme for plastic bottles. this policy shifts the economic incentive transforming what is currently perceived as litter into an asset. It will ensure that empty bottles are returned to the supply chain rather than being discarded in nature.
The benefits of such a system are great as millions of tonnes of plastic are lost to landfills annually a 10p charge creates a circular economy. The consumer incurs no cost, while the polluter pays.
