Petition Action

Review guidance on investigating crimes when reported by abusers

Petition Details

Review police guidance on investigating crimes and look at how victims of domestic/ sexual abuse and coercive control can be better protected from further traumatisation when their abusers report them to the police for crimes.

Additional Information

These crimes will be on the perpetrators orders, carried out by the victim under duress. Abusers can threaten victims and their families to coerce their victims into committing crimes. They then report them and the victims are retraumatized and face prosecution rather than being treated as victims. We feel a review is needed to look at how these reports are dealt with by police and the justice system.
