Ban anyone convicted of a terrorism offence from running for Councillor/MP
Introduce legislation to permanently disqualify anyone convicted of terrorism from standing for or holding any public office in the UK, including as an MP, councillor, mayor, or other elected roles.
Current UK law does not impose a specific, automatic, or lifelong ban for terrorism convictions.
This change would protect democratic integrity, ensure public confidence in elected representatives, and prevent those convicted of terrorism from gaining platforms of influence.
We urge the Government and Parliament to act swiftly to legislate this safeguard.
