Require all social housing providers to publish floor plans for accessible homes
We call on the Government to require all social housing providers and local authority housing registers to publish floor plans and key accessibility measurements for any property advertised as accessible or suitable for disabled applicants.
Many properties are currently labelled as “wheelchair accessible” or “suitable for an indoor wheelchair user” without providing room sizes, doorway widths, or turning space dimensions. Disabled people therefore have no way of assessing whether a property is physically usable before bidding. We believe publishing floor plans and accessibility measurements is a simple, practical step that would remove these barriers and ensure accessible housing is genuinely accessible.
We ask the Government to introduce national standards requiring:
• Mandatory floor plans for all accessible social housing adverts
• Published accessibility measurements for properties labelled accessible
• Consistent accessibility classifications across housing providers
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
