Petition Action

Update UK e-bike laws: allow 750W, 20mph limit and throttle use.

Petition Details

Modernise e-bike law by raising motor power to 750W, increasing assisted speed to 20mph and permitting throttle control. Update regulations so e-bikes remain legally classed as bicycles, without licences or insurance, while keeping safety rules and existing road standards.

Additional Information

Current UK limits are outdated and restrict practical use of e-bikes. Higher power and a 20mph limit would make e-bikes safer in traffic and more useful for daily travel. This is vital for the economy as many rely on e-bikes to transport goods and services, including food delivery couriers, parcel couriers, handymen and builders. Modern rules would reduce congestion, support green transport, create jobs and help small businesses operate more efficiently and economically.
