Petition Action

Require MPs and party leaders to publicly correct misinformation.

Petition Details

Any statement shown to be false by official fact-checkers must be corrected on their website, social media, and party channels.

Introduce independent political fact-checking bodies with enforcement powers.

Could be linked to the Electoral Commission or a new independent office.

Additional Information

Political leaders often make false or misleading statements without correcting them, which erodes trust and misinforms voters. Requiring public corrections will improve transparency, strengthen debate, and help voters make informed decisions — creating a culture of honesty and accountability in public office.
