Petition Action

Make it compulsory to have dual controls in vehicles checked every year

Petition Details

I am concerned that there may be numerous cowboys fitting controls to vehicles to teach people to drive in that are completely unsafe, not fitted correctly and putting everyone at risk. A car needs an MOT, why are cars being fitted dangerously and not being checked.

Additional Information

As a parent, I will one day send my son out to learn to drive. It terrifies me that there are some 'teachers' driving around in older vehicles which are no longer safe, but also having controls fitted that are unsafe; rusted, broken, parts degraded. There is no specific legislation on the safety of learner vehicles. If the car has an MOT, Tax and insurance (which insurers are sometimes not even made aware of the controls), then the vehicles are 'ok' in the eyes of the law. It completely baffles me.
