Add Politics & Economics lessons to the secondary school curriculum
We would like the government to enforce mandatory education about how politics and economics work within a society. It could start in secondary school in year 8 and teach the basics of society. It could cover how Parliament works and the economy (stocks, investing and shares etc).
The cost of living crisis is increasing rapidly. 62% of adults in Great Britain reported that their cost of living had increased in the period from 1 October 2025 to 4 January 2026. Now, if you imagine young adults going into this world of inflation, politics and taxes with no prior knowledge how would you expect them to survive? we think the simple answer is they wouldn’t. We need to teach this so that people can live adult life. Furthermore, the voting age is looking to be lowered to 16 soon, so it is more crucial for young people to have knowledge on this area.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
