Only require disclosure of role-relevant convictions to employers and regulators
Reform the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act so employees are only required to disclose to employers and licensing bodies criminal record information that is directly relevant to a role.
We feel the current disclosure system allows employers to see irrelevant convictions, enabling hidden discrimination against rehabilitated people and undermining the purpose of criminal justice. This can limit employment, increase reoffending, and waste talent. Restricting disclosure to role-relevant convictions could improve fairness, support rehabilitation, boost productivity and tax revenue, and protect public safety.
