Petition Action

Make failure to indicate a specific road safety offence

Petition Details

Introduce clearer enforcement, fines and penalty points for drivers who fail to indicate when changing lanes, overtaking or turning. Treat failure to signal as a specific road safety offence, except where indicating is genuinely unnecessary.

Additional Information

We believe failure to indicate is a widespread and dangerous behaviour that causes collisions and near misses. Motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians are especially at risk as they rely on clear signals to react safely. Indicators are a basic driving requirement, yet lack of enforcement means many drivers ignore them. Proper penalties could improve road awareness, reduce accidents and save lives.
