Require employers to manage psychosocial risks like stress & poor mental health
Introduce a legal requirement for employers to identify, assess & manage psychosocial risks like stress and poor mental health caused by work due to for example workload, job design, management practices & workplace culture. This could raise the importance in line with physical health & safety risks
Work related stress and mental ill health are major causes of sickness absence, reduced productivity, and lives lost. In our view, current laws in this area are unclear and inconsistently applied, leading to reactive responses rather than prevention. We believe clear legislation in this area could protect workers, give employers certainty, support enforcement, and ensure mental safety is managed as seriously as physical safety.
