Petition Action

Reduce VAT to 5% on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), an alternative to Diesel

Petition Details

HVO is a viable alternative fuel to Diesel. Using it we believe that we can reuse our existing fuel infrastructure and vehicles and make use of a product to support an orderly transition to net zero in realistic timescales without reliance on imported electric vehicles made overseas.

Additional Information

It’s green, proven to cut up to 90% of net CO2 emissions and it can be made in the UK but it’s charged at 20% VAT. So let’s encourage use and reduce VAT to 5%. A straightforward VAT reduction from 20% to 5% will bring it into closer parity with diesel prices. If home-based charging for electric vehicles is charged only 5% VAT, why should HVO be stuck at 20%?
