Petition Action

Should Shabana Mahmood step down over changes affecting migrants’ ILR rights?

Petition Details

We call on the Government to halt any mid-journey changes to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) rules and protect migrants who began their lawful settlement pathway under previous criteria. Fairness, legal certainty, and transitional protections must be upheld.

Additional Information

Migrants who entered a lawful pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain did so based on clear rules and legitimate expectations. Changing eligibility mid-journey undermines trust in the UK’s legal system, creates uncertainty for families, and risks unfair hardship. Policy reform should not penalise those who complied with existing requirements. The Government must uphold fairness, legal certainty, and transitional protections.
