Petition Action

Fund free parking for key workers at their places of work

Petition Details

I want to speak about fairness, recognition, and practical support for the people who keep our communities running: our key workers. Key workers are not a luxury. They are a necessity. They are nurses, paramedics, teachers, social workers, carers, police officers, firefighters and support staff.

Additional Information

For shift workers, public transport is not always a viable option. Early morning starts, late-night finishes, carrying equipment, travelling between sites, or responding to urgent calls often make driving a necessity — not a choice. Some councils already provide concessions for residents, businesses, and visitors in various circumstances. We think free parking permits for verified key workers is both administratively feasible and socially responsible.
