Screen for Vasa previa in the NHS
Update NHS guidelines to make screening for vasa previa mandatory during the routine mid-pregnancy anomaly scan, using colour Doppler where needed. Ensure all NHS trusts follow a consistent national policy so no baby dies from this preventable condition due to lack of detection
Vasa previa affects around 1 in 2,500 pregnancies. When diagnosed before birth, survival rates exceed 95%, but if undetected, up to 50–60% of babies may die. I lost my own child because it was not identified during routine NHS scans. Screening can be done during the mid-pregnancy scan. Making it mandatory could prevent avoidable baby deaths and spare families devastating loss
