Petition Action

Require mandatory competency assessments and refresher training for hoist use

Petition Details

Introduce national requirements for practical competency assessments and regular refresher training in hoist use, including safe sling fitting, equipment checks, and inspection oversight to ensure safe moving and handling practices in care settings.

Additional Information

Incorrect use of hoists can cause serious injury or death. Vulnerable people rely on carers for safe transfers. Consistent competency checks and refresher training would prevent avoidable harm, protect care workers, and improve safety standards across UK care services. After losing a family member following a transfer incident, I want to help prevent avoidable harm.
