Remove VAT from fees for independent SEND schools

Petition Details

In accordance with VAT on all independent schools, there is currently a 20% tax on all independent SEND schools. This petition proposes that fees for these schools are exempted from VAT.

Additional Information

We believe it seems completely inequitable and morally impermissible to tax families whose children’s needs can only be catered for at unique independent SEND schools. This could force many families to place their children into an already overburdened state sector. Although some institutions are absorbing the costs of VAT, we believe we should clearly support these institutions for the fundamental public service which they provide, rather than making things harder for them.
