Require government departments to publish annual reports on digital projects
Make it law that all government departments publish annual reports on digital projects. These must explain why each website, app or campaign exists and what it costs. Named senior officials must be accountable. No project should go live unless it meets government accessibility standards.
Government spends substantial public money each year on digital projects, including websites, apps and online campaigns. Some deliver real benefit. Others are delayed, over budget, inaccessible or fail to work properly. Information about costs and performance is scattered across multiple reports, which can make scrutiny difficult. If public money funds digital services, they must be useful, usable and safe. We believe clear annual reporting would strengthen accountability and reduce waste.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
