Ask major UK supermarkets to offer optional cost breakdown receipts. This request for greater transparency in pricing could be incorporated into an amendment to the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024. Technologies such as RFID and Bluetooth Electronic Shelf Labels could be used.
Understanding precisely where money goes during every grocery shop is a vital tool in household budgeting. Currently receipts fail to give an in-depth breakdown of the costs factored in to the asking price of each item. A full cost-breakdown receipt could transform the way customers manage their expenses, facilitating a culture of informed spending incorporating ethical, health, and budget considerations. RFID and Bluetooth Electronic Shelf Labels make providing this transparency possible.
