Petition Action

Reform minimum safety standards in temporary housing to protect children

Petition Details

Pass a new law which reforms minimum safety standards in temporary accommodation for families with children which introduces mandatory inspections, strict repair deadlines for hazard (vermin, damp, mould, heating/hot water), and automatic right to emergency rehousing if risks persist.

Additional Information

We believe too many children are placed in temporary accommodation that is unsafe and unsanitary. Vermin, damp and mould, broken heating and overcrowding can worsen asthma, infections and mental health, yet we feel families are often ignored or forced to live with hazards for months. This new law could create clear legal duties, time limits and accountability so children are protected and councils act fast.
