Petition Action

Introduce a minimum 6-month grace period for UK dual citizen travel rules.

Petition Details

Require the Government to introduce a minimum 6-month grace period before enforcing new travel rules requiring British dual citizens to use a UK passport or certificate of entitlement, allowing sufficient time to obtain documentation before travel and avoid disruption to existing travel plans.

Additional Information

The new requirements affect many British citizens living overseas, including children born abroad who do not yet hold UK passports. Obtaining a first UK passport from overseas can take significant time and cost, especially for families. Without a transition period, British citizens may be denied boarding or have existing travel plans disrupted despite their citizenship. A minimum 6-month grace period would allow reasonable time to obtain documentation and comply.
