Scrap the reduced daily rest period for HGV drivers: always require 11 hours

Petition Details

Currently HGV drivers can reduce their daily rest period to as little as 9 hours 3 times between any 2 weekly rest periods. This needs to be written out of tacho law and a minimum of 11 hours rest should be mandatory without exception.

Additional Information

We think that reducing a rest period to less than 11 hours is dangerous for the HGV driver and other road users. Companies will tell drivers to not drive tired one minute, but when a deadline needs to be met, they’ll ask, expect and often demand that drivers reduce their rest, often to as little as 9 hours between shifts.
