Petition Action

Raise student loan repayment threshold with inflation, end freeze & cap interest

Petition Details

End the freeze on student loan repayment thresholds, increase them in line with inflation, and cap interest at a rate no higher than the Government’s cost of borrowing.

Additional Information

Threshold freezes mean graduates repay more each year in real terms, even when wages don’t rise much. High interest rates can cause balances to grow faster than repayments, leaving many paying for decades. We believe this is unfair and damages trust in the student finance system.
