Petition Action

Stop sewage discharge into rivers. Stop water companies self monitoring.

Petition Details

End with immediate effect discharge of sewage into our rivers and on our beaches. End water companies self monitoring. Ensure proper regulation of monitoring water companies and give power to environment agency to monitor effectively and laws to hold to companies to account.

Additional Information

Our rivers and beaches are being heavily polluted by sewage. There is not appropriate monitoring. Warnings are not given that rivers and beaches are not safe to swim in. It is a public health risk and an environmental disaster with long lasting and serious implications. Water companies are discharging sewage and not being held to account. Self monitoring and reporting is ineffective. It is in the public interest that immediate action be taken and this must be debated in parliament.
