Legalise, regulate, and tax cannabis for adult use in the UK
The Government must bring forward legislation to fully legalise, regulate, and tax the production, sale, and possession of cannabis for adult use. Furthermore, the Government must ensure fair, barrier-free access to medical cannabis on the NHS to end the current two-tier healthcare divide.
Prohibition has failed. The UK is a top exporter of legal medical cannabis, yet criminalises its own citizens for the same plant. Medical access is a two-tier system where only the wealthy afford private clinics, forcing 1.8M sick people to the black market. Legalising and taxing adult-use cannabis will defund street gangs, free up police resources, and generate over £1bn annually for the NHS and public services. It is time to follow allied nations and adopt a common-sense policy.
