Fund the RSV vaccine on the NHS for clinically vulnerable people of all ages
Clinically vulnerable individuals remain at elevated risk of severe disease from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Expanding RSV vaccine eligibility to all clinically vulnerable people—regardless of age—would reduce hospitalisations and complications, and ease pressure on health care systems.
The vaccine is only available on the NHS to pregnant ladies, 75–79 year olds and people who turned 80 after 1 September 2024. From April 2026, this will be expended to everyone over 75 as well as all residents in care homes for older adults. RSV can cause severe respiratory illness in people with chronic medical conditions like COPD, immune compromise, or disabilities. Current age restricted eligibility leaves many high risk patients unprotected. Offering the vaccine to all clinically vulnerable individuals provides targeted protection where it is most beneficial. Broader availability improves equity and aligns with preventive health priorities.
