Require parliamentary approval for foreign military use of UK territory.
We call on the Government to introduce legislation requiring prior Parliamentary approval before UK territory, including bases, airspace and waters, is used by foreign armed forces for new or expanded military operations. Decisions of this scale should be debated and approved by MPs.
The use of UK territory for foreign military operations may risk drawing the UK into escalation or armed conflict. Decisions with such serious implications for national security, public safety and international obligations should not rest solely with the executive. Requiring prior Parliamentary debate and approval would strengthen democratic accountability and ensure that actions taken from UK soil reflect the will of elected representatives.
