Cap service charges for shared owners & leaseholders.
Asking the Government to introduce a legal cap of max £250 per month for 3 bedroom flat on service charges for shared ownership & leasehold properties. Charges must be means-tested for affordability based on household earnings, so that no family is priced out of their home by unaffordable fees.
Shared owners and leaseholders face unregulated, rising service charges that are unaffordable and unsustainable. Fees often take a disproportionate share of income, pushing families into financial strain with little transparency or recourse. Housing associations must fully itemize and justify charges. Affordable housing must stay affordable by capping fees and linking them to income to prevent financial hardship and homelessness.
